Hyundai Motor India will launch the Hyundai Bayon on October 26, 2026, with a generative AI-powered voice assistant featuring intelligence from Perplexity and voice AI technology from SoundHound AI. The SUV will also get a dual-screen digital cockpit, NVIDIA-accelerated connected car technology, over-the-air software updates and more than 70 Hyundai Bluelink connected features.
The India-spec Hyundai Bayon will offer a technology package focused on voice-based assistance, navigation and connected vehicle functions. Bookings for the SUV are open at authorised Hyundai dealerships and through the company’s official website for Rs 11,000.
Hyundai Bayon to get Perplexity-powered generative AI assistant
The Hyundai Bayon will introduce Hyundai Motor India’s first generative AI voice assistant. The system combines Intelligence by Perplexity with voice AI powered by SoundHound AI to enable natural conversations between occupants and the vehicle.
Unlike conventional voice assistants that primarily depend on predefined commands, the system is designed to understand conversational requests and provide relevant information. Drivers can ask it to prepare travel itineraries, check real-time weather, find hotels at their destination, recommend restaurants and suggest nearby shopping destinations.
The assistant can also provide information about sports coverage, score updates and other queries during a journey. Hyundai has not yet detailed the complete scope of the Perplexity integration or specified which functions will require an internet connection.
Here’s what users can use it for:
The Perplexity-powered generative AI assistant in the Hyundai Bayon is designed to help users access information through natural voice conversations. Integrated with voice AI technology powered by SoundHound AI, the system will offer several functions beyond conventional voice commands.
Here are some things users will be able to do with the AI assistant:
- Plan road trips: Ask the assistant to prepare a travel itinerary for an upcoming journey, helping organise travel plans.
- Check weather conditions: Request real-time weather information to get updates while travelling.
- Find hotels: Ask for hotel recommendations at the destination when planning an overnight stay.
- Discover restaurants: Get restaurant suggestions based on the journey or location.
- Explore shopping destinations: Ask the assistant to identify the top five shopping destinations nearby.
- Access sports updates: Request information about sports coverage, match scores and related insights while on the road.
- Ask general questions: Use conversational requests to seek information instead of relying only on predefined voice commands.
The integration aims to make information accessible through voice interactions, reducing the need to manually search for answers on a smartphone. However, Hyundai has not yet specified the complete scope of Perplexity’s integration, the internet connectivity requirements for individual functions or whether all capabilities will be available from launch.
Dual 12.3-inch displays and NVIDIA-powered cockpit
The Hyundai Bayon will feature the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), accelerated by NVIDIA. The system brings navigation, connected services, vehicle information and controls into a unified digital interface.
The cockpit comprises two 12.3-inch curved panoramic displays, with one serving as the instrument cluster and the other handling infotainment functions. The setup will support online navigation, split-screen functionality, a personalised control panel and smartphone-like quick controls. Individual user profiles will also allow personalised settings.
Over-the-air updates and Hyundai Bluelink
The SUV will support over-the-air updates for up to 19 vehicle controllers. This will allow Hyundai to deliver supported software enhancements remotely without requiring a dealership visit for every update.
The Hyundai Bayon will also feature more than 70 Bluelink connected functions, including remote start and stop, vehicle information, remote controls, location services and navigation-related features. Smartphone and smartwatch connectivity will extend access to selected vehicle functions beyond the cabin.
Voice commands in multiple Indian languages
Hyundai will offer a multilingual interface supporting 10 regional and two international languages across the infotainment and instrument cluster screens.
The SUV will also support more than 500 embedded voice commands in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu. These commands will allow users to access several in-car functions without an internet connection, complementing the connected AI assistant.
Hyundai Bayon engine and transmission details
The Hyundai Bayon will be powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder MPi petrol engine producing 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual gearbox and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). Hyundai will launch the SUV in India on October 26, 2026. The company has yet to announce its price.
