RealFi launched USDrf and yield-bearing sUSDrf on Cardano on October 1, bringing real-world credit exposure into the blockchain ecosystem. The rollout follows years of development around lending in emerging markets. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has
described RealFi as part of a wider effort to connect blockchain finance with underserved borrowers.
The launch comes as Hoskinson also argues that cryptocurrency has entered a period of rapid technological development. Speaking at the United Nations, he compared blockchain with earlier exponential technologies, including nuclear technology, the internet and artificial intelligence.
Hoskinson said such technologies can progress slowly before their impact accelerates. He said small improvements can eventually produce much larger changes as adoption, efficiency, and infrastructure develop together.
RealFi Connects Cardano With Real-World Lending
Eligible retail users can acquire USDrf and stake the token for sUSDrf. The second token offers variable returns that come from the underlying portfolio supporting the system. Meanwhile, RealFi limits direct minting and redemption with the issuer to verified institutional partners. That structure gives institutional participants different redemption rights from retail holders.
Hoskinson said in July that he had invested several million dollars in RealFi. He also said the team had already serviced loans in Kenya and Uganda while developing the platform largely outside public attention.
According to Hoskinson, RealFi represents an early part of Cardano’s effort to bank people who lack access to conventional financial services. The model aims to generate returns from lending outside crypto markets rather than relying mainly on token incentives.
The launch therefore adds another use case to Cardano’s financial infrastructure. It also arrives while the network’s stablecoin
base moves toward a record level, even as capital committed to decentralized finance applications has fallen sharply.
Hoskinson Sees Blockchain Following an Exponential Path

Hoskinson used the internet to explain how exponential technology can alter established systems. Communication once depended heavily on physical distance and could take months in some cases.
The internet changed that process by making global communication nearly immediate. Hoskinson described computing and the internet as another major stage in exponential technological development.

Tokenized Assets Add to Cardano’s Broader Shift
Tokenized equity data shows how quickly some parts of the market have already expanded. The sector grew from roughly USD 600 million at the start of 2025 to about USD 3 billion.
Financial institutions have also explored blockchain settlement, tokenized assets and digital forms of money. These systems can move traditional assets on-chain and may support faster transaction settlement than some existing financial infrastructure.
Hoskinson used
renewable energy growth in Germany to illustrate how early forecasts can underestimate technological adoption. Earlier expectations placed renewable electricity at no more than 4% of Germany’s supply.
RealFi
now puts part of Cardano’s real-world finance strategy into operation. USDrf provides the dollar-token component, while sUSDrf links eligible holders to variable returns from the underlying lending portfolio.
At the same time, the system separates retail access from institutional minting and redemption. That distinction defines how different participants enter and exit the product as Cardano expands its exposure to real-world credit.
