NVIDIA on October 8, 2026, announced commitments valued at $1 billion to build out U.S. capacity for super intelligence research and development over the next five years, in fields the company described as critical for U.S. leadership, including quantum computing, healthcare and energy security.

The announcement was made during the Science: A New Golden Age event in Washington, D.C., where U.S. officials, industry leaders and members of the science community convened to discuss the public-private collaborations needed to bolster scientific exploration.

In its announcement, NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang tied the investment to President Trump’s Genesis Mission and said the company is “putting advanced Super Intelligence in the hands of America’s scientists to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine, energy and materials.”

During the event, the U.S. Office of Science and Technology Policy marked the expansion of the Genesis Mission, an initiative in which NVIDIA describes itself as a leading industry partner. NVIDIA said it has invited members of the science community to collaborate on research and development using compute and super intelligence infrastructure reand promoting U.S. innovation

    Where the Commitment Is Directed

NVIDIA said that over the next five years it will direct the $1 billion toward advancing super intelligence for science and quantum computing across the U.S. through support of the nation’s higher-education research institutions. The commitment also includes investments aimed at accelerating American quantum leadership and support for cloud service providers bolstering U.S. government mission needs.

The company said it is also a collaborator on a number of the phase 2 Genesis Mission awards announced at the event, including projects in quantum computing, fusion, accelerator design and microelectronics.

    The Genesis Mission

The Genesis Mission is a national initiative that, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, unites the department’s national laboratories, industry and academia to harness AI for breakthroughs in energy dominance, discovery science and national security. The department describes the mission as building the American Science and Security Platform, an integrated platform connecting supercomputers, experimental facilities, AI systems and unique datasets.

The mission also includes national science and technology challenges that the department says require accelerated U.S. innovation and discovery, with organized efforts around those challenges intended to deliver benefits through the mission’s AI platforms and partnerships. Under Secretary for Science Darío Gil serves as the department’s director for the Genesis Mission. The department’s Genesis Mission news listing records that it announced more than $800 million in partner commitments to the mission on July 22, 2026.

    Prior National Lab Supercomputing Work

NVIDIA said it has collaborated with U.S. national laboratories for more than two decades. In 2025, the company announced its partnership with the Department of Energy on the Genesis Mission, which included a collaboration with Oracle to build the department’s largest AI supercomputer for scientific discovery at Argonne National Laboratory.

The Solstice system will feature 100,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, and a second system, Equinox, will include 10,000 Blackwell GPUs and was expected to be available in the first half of 2026, the company said. Both systems will be located at Argonne, interconnected by NVIDIA networking, and deliver a combined 2,200 exaflops of AI performance. NVIDIA said the systems will let scientists develop and train new frontier models and AI reasoning models for open science using its Megatron-Core library and TensorRT inference software, and that Solstice will be built under the department’s new public-private partnership model, which includes industry investments and use cases.

In the October 28, 2025 announcement, U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright described the two Argonne systems and the collaboration between the department, NVIDIA and Oracle as “a new common sense approach to computing partnerships.”

Also on October 28, 2025, NVIDIA said it is accelerating seven new systems across Argonne and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Argonne is unveiling three NVIDIA-based systems — Tara, Minerva and Janus — set to expand access to AI-driven computing for researchers across the country.

Los Alamos selected the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform and the Quantum-X800 InfiniBand networking fabric for its next-generation Mission and Vision systems, to be built and delivered by HPE. NVIDIA said the pairing delivers high network bandwidth with ultralow latency and will let researchers run complex simulations in areas spanning materials science, climate modeling and quantum computing research. The Vision system builds on the laboratory’s Venado supercomputer, built for unclassified research. Mission is the fifth Advanced Technology System in the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Advanced Simulation and Computing program, which the laboratory supports, and is expected to be operational in late 2027 running classified applications.
