Chinese big tech companies are offering annual salaries of up to 1 million yuan (about 200 million won) to secure artificial intelligence (AI) personnel.
According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) in Hong Kong on the 26th, Chinese big tech companies such as ByteDance, Tencent, and Alibaba are expanding their hiring of ‘field deployment engineers (FDE)’ that can apply AI technology to actual corporate work.

According to data from “MyMy,” a Chinese professional networking platform, FDE recruitment notices in China jumped 1523% from January to July this year compared to the same period last year.
According to the announcement posted on the Chinese recruitment platform, ByteDance offered a monthly salary of 35,000 to 65,000 yuan (about 7 million to 13 million won) to FDE jobs in its AI business division.
Furthermore, it was conditioned to pay 15 months’ worth of salary per year. Considering this, the annual remuneration is up to 975,000 yuan (about 194 million won).
Ant Digital Technologies and Tencent, affiliated with Alibaba
Ant Digital Technologies and Tencent, affiliated with Alibaba Group, also announced that they will pay 30,000 to 60,000 yuan (about 8 million to 12 million won) as a monthly salary for FDE jobs.
Considering that China’s annual disposable income last year averaged only 43,377 yuan (about 8.6 million won), the salary paid to them is considerable.
A personnel management manager at an AI company in Beijing said, “These high salaries are a small number of cases,” but added, “Demand for developers with experience in building AI agents is strong.”
The Chinese government is also giving support to FDE jobs.
In late August, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information announced a notice encouraging companies to build FDE teams to support AI adoption while residing at customer sites.
