Eternal Ltd plans to launch dark.ai, a privacy-focused artificial intelligence assistant, globally by the end of 2026, founder Deepinder Goyal said in the company’s Q2 FY27 shareholders’ letter.
The platform, being tested internally, is meant for users who want to use AI tools without concerns about their conversations, research and ideas being retained or accessed by third parties.
“I wanted an AI which I could talk to without being judged, without any fear, and without leaving a trace,” Goyal said.
The company has been using the product internally for the past few months, he said, adding he found himself “revealing more, asking things I would not ask anywhere else, and going deeper into my research” because he no longer had to worry about who might access the conversations.
Dark.ai will use fine-tuned frontier open-weight models running on Eternal’s infrastructure, with end-to-end encryption. The platform will also feature an encrypted memory management layer that allows context to carry across sessions under the user’s control.
“We cannot read your conversations even if we are forced to,” Goyal said.
The product is aimed at power users, including founders, researchers, scientists, enterprises and governments, for whom confidentiality can be critical to their work. Eternal also plans to differentiate dark.ai through model quality. “Our models are trained to not please you, and tell you what they think is the truth,” Goyal said.
Explaining the rationale behind the product, Goyal pointed to the uncertainty surrounding how AI companies retain, process and use conversations, even when users opt out of having their data used for model training.
“The standard response is: I’ve already turned off training on my data. Good. Now ask what that setting actually is,” he wrote, questioning whether such settings address broader concerns around data retention, human reviews, third-party logging and how information could be used in the future.
He argued that these concerns can discourage people from sharing sensitive information or using AI to explore complex questions. Founders, researchers and scientists may hesitate to discuss early-stage ideas, while individuals may avoid asking personal questions.
“The uncertainty and the lack of trust we have with large AI companies limits the power of AI in our lives,” Goyal said.
“Every chat with a mainstream assistant carries a small asterisk in your head: someone, someday, somewhere, can read this,” he wrote.
The company has not disclosed details of the models powering dark.ai or published benchmarks comparing its performance with other AI assistants. Goyal said the benchmarks would be revealed later.
The planned launch comes as technology companies compete to build AI assistants for consumers and businesses, with privacy, reliability and model performance emerging as key areas of differentiation.
For Eternal, dark.ai represents an expansion beyond its core food delivery and quick commerce businesses into AI software. However, the company has yet to disclose the product’s business model, pricing or revenue targets.
