Pokémon Oura Ring, here we come

While the core of the Pokémon franchise has always been games, the Pokémon Co. has certainly explored ideas outside of that line as well. Over the years we’ve seen various Pokémon products that try to integrate the brand into multiple aspects of fans’ lives, and it seems we can expect even more of that going forward.
Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, recently shared some thoughts while appearing at Producing Pokémon: A Conversation with Mr. Ishihara, a panel at the main PokémonXP stage. According to Ishihara, he sees a future where the teams behind Pokémon explore how they can build products and experiences around the world of wearable tech.
“In the past, these gadgets or companion accessories [like the Pokéwalker and PokémonGO Plus] were kind of like these cool secret weapons you could pull out of your pocket and do something really cool with, but today I was thinking, going forward, maybe a challenge for us is going to be figuring out how we can integrate Pokémon more with some of the wearable technology, like smart watches, smart glasses, or even smart rings, for example.”
We’re already seeing how serious Ishihara is about this, as just a few days ago we had the reveal of the Google Fitbit Air Special Edition Pokémon Sleep, a new special-edition tracker that combines Google Health and Fitbit Air’s advanced sleep tracking with the playful, rewarding experience of the Pokémon Sleep app. Looks like this’ll just be the beginning of Pokémon and wearable tech, and it has us wondering what could be next!
